How The Eye Works

Myopia, sometimes referred to as nearsightedness or shortsightedness, is a condition which usually develops during our teens. The eye becomes too long or the interior surface too powerful, so that light rays focus in front of the retina making it harder to distinguish objects in the distance.

Astigmatism is another common occurrence in which the shape of the eye creates refractive error. With astigmatism the eye is shaped more like a football than a basketball. This condition creates multiple images on the retina and results in blurry vision.

Some people suffer from hyperopia, or farsightedness, a condition in which the shape of the eye causes light rays to focus behind the retina.

As people age, they experience more difficulty in reading. This condition called presbyopia is created by changes to the interior of the eye which limit the ability to focus on close-up objects. Laser Vision Correction only removes tissue from the surface of the eye for correcting distance vision and does not address presbyopia.
